Colombia's Congress moves toward appointing new Contralor General on Aug 12
The Colombian Congress entered the final stage of selecting the next Contralor General, a post currently held by Carlos Hernán Rodríguez. Lawmakers will vote on 12 August 2026 to choose a successor from a list of ten candidates.
The Chamber of Representatives heard the candidates on 27 July 2026 in the Elliptic Hall of the National Capitol, while the Senate conducted its hearings on 28 July 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Senate chamber. The shortlist includes Luis Enrique Abadía García, a career civil servant and former acting Contralor; Andrés Castro Franco, former district Contralor and former Bogotá ombudsman; Jorge Eliécer Laverde Vargas, Secretary of the Senate’s Sixth Commission; Ana Elena Monsalvo Herrera, an economist with prior delegation experience; Carlos Mario Zuluaga Pardo, ex‑vice‑Contralor; Julián Mauricio Ruiz Rodríguez, former district Contralor of Bogotá; Diana Carolina Torres García, an attorney; Amanda Madrid Panesso, a departmental Contralor official; Karol González Mora, a public‑sector lawyer; and Rosalba Jazmín Cabrales Romero, a selected attorney.
