Colombia's Córdoba Department pushes for industrial hemp investment
The Córdoba department in Colombia is positioning itself as a strategic hub for industrial hemp investment. Leveraging its agro‑climatic conditions, more than 1.5 million hectares of suitable land—over 1 million of high suitability—and a regulatory framework that supports hemp cultivation, the region aims to attract projects that will develop a value chain spanning textiles, sustainable construction, cosmetics, functional foods and biocomposites. Carmen Caballero, president of ProColombia, said Córdoba offers differential advantages to meet growing global demand for sustainable materials.
The global market for industrial hemp is projected to expand from roughly US$11.42 billion in 2025 to US$71.53 billion by 2034, a compound annual growth rate of about 23 %. Córdoba’s location, especially the municipality of Montería—which has the greatest concentration of high‑suitability land—provides strategic access to export markets such as the United States.
