Verónica Alcocer implicated in corruption by leaked audio

A series of audio recordings released by the Colombian magazine Semana feature former presidential adviser Eva Ferrer Galcerán accusing former first lady Verónica Alcocer of serious corruption. Ferrer alleges that Alcocer received about two million euros from Catalan businessman Manel Grau during Gustavo Petro’s 2022 campaign and that she exercised influence over appointments at state entities such as Ecopetrol, the Banco Agrario and the tax authority DIAN.

The recordings also claim that roughly one billion Colombian pesos vanished from the Presidential Reconciliation office that Alcocer once headed, and that her relatives acted as “testaferros” for a network Ferrer described as a “mafia” of criminal collaborators. Alcocer has not issued any public comment, and the allegations have not yet led to judicial proceedings. The scandal surfaces just days before the transition to the incoming president Abelardo de la Espriella, adding pressure to the outgoing Petro administration.

Authorities are reviewing the authenticity of the audio and the substance of the accusations, while political opponents call for a swift investigation.
