Colombia's Francia Márquez departure sparks criticism as Gustavo Petro denies extradition rumors

Former Vice President Francia Márquez posted a farewell message on X, sharing an image of her official portrait that will join the gallery of vice presidents at the Casa de Nariño. She thanked supporters for four years of work on social justice, equity and representation of historically excluded communities. Opposition senator María Fernanda Cabal responded with a harsh rebuke, repeating the campaign slogan that Márquez “vivió sabroso” and accusing her of excessive travel expenses and low policy execution, underscoring the deep polarization of the outgoing Petro administration.

At a rally in Soacha, ex‑President Gustavo Petro dismissed rumors of a U.S. extradition order, stating “No hay orden de extradición” and denying any links to organized crime or mafia‑financed campaigns. He cited statements from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control and Interpol, and warned that he would call an indefinite general strike if he or members of the Historic Pact face judicial persecution. Petro also announced he would not attend the inauguration of his successor, Abelardo de la Espriella.
