Colombia's household debt averages drop 10% as more seek solutions, Bravo data shows
Data from Bravo, a debt‑relief and financial‑education firm, indicate that Colombian households are reducing their debt levels. The average debt per user fell from 37 million pesos in January to 33.6 million pesos in May 2026, a decline of roughly 10 %. At the same time, the average number of obligations per person decreased from 3.9 to 3.5.
Despite these modest improvements, over‑indebtedness and falling incomes remain the chief drivers that push people to seek assistance. The firm reports that the age of most clients is about 41 years, a stage typically associated with housing, family care and long‑term financial commitments. Bravo’s experts advise individuals to regularly review their obligations, avoid new credit to cover existing debt and obtain specialist guidance when repayment becomes burdensome. “The problem is not always how much one owes, but the ability to meet those obligations,” they said.
