Colombia's Interior Minister Rodrigo Lara Restrepo Files Tutela to Revive Father’s Political Movement

Colombia's Interior Minister Rodrigo Lara Restrepo has filed a constitutional tutela seeking to reactivate the political movement founded by his father, the assassinated former Justice Minister Rodrigo Lara Bonilla. The action aims to restore the movement’s legal status and associated political rights, arguing that administrative or judicial decisions are unlawfully preventing its recognition.

Lara Restrepo, a former congressman and 2023 Bogotá mayor candidate, says reviving the movement would create a new political force with strong anti‑corruption and anti‑narcotics symbolism, reorganising sectors that have drifted from traditional parties. Critics contend the move may exploit his father’s legacy for contemporary political gain.
