Colombia's interior minister‑designate Rodrigo Lara urges coalition to pick single anti‑corruption comptroller candidate

Interior minister‑designate Rodrigo Lara said the incoming government will not back any specific candidate for the new Comptroller General and will respect the Congress's autonomy to decide. He called on the pro‑government coalition – including Centro Democrático, the Liberal Party, the Conservative Party and the U party – to agree on a single nominee who is committed to fighting corruption and to avoid any pact with the opposition Pacto Histórico.

Congress has scheduled a plenary session for 12 August 2026 to elect the Comptroller for the 2026‑2030 term. Lara affirmed that the government will support the outcome provided the process guarantees an anti‑corruption stance.
