Colombia's JEP seeks international support over proposed budget cuts

Alejandro Ramelli, president of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) in Colombia, has announced plans to seek assistance from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other international bodies following a proposed budget reduction.

The controversy stems from a proposal by Senator Enrique Gómez to transfer 100 billion pesos from the JEP budget to the Superior Council of the Judicature within the 2027 General National Budget. While the government has assigned 821.8 billion pesos for 2027—an increase from 2026—it falls short of the 947.6 billion pesos requested by the JEP.

If the proposed 100 billion peso transfer is approved, the JEP would operate with approximately 721.8 billion pesos, a figure lower than its 2026 budget. Ramelli has characterized these potential cuts as a grave threat to the administration of justice.
