Colombia's La Línea landslide forces single‑lane traffic on key cargo route

A landslide on 25 July 2026 destabilised the La Línea section of the Cajamarca–La Línea corridor in Tolima, Colombia. Authorities responded by restricting the road to a single lane, alternating traffic every 40 minutes or one hour in each direction, to protect users while debris removal and slope‑stabilisation work proceeds.

The restriction has caused severe congestion, with travel times doubling or tripling and long queues of vehicles. The corridor carries roughly 70 % of cargo moving from the Pacific port of Buenaventura to the country’s interior, prompting transport unions to warn of higher freight costs and possible price rises for consumers. The Instituto Nacional de Vías (Invías) and contracted crews are using heavy machinery to clear material and monitor the terrain. Officials attribute the slide to terrain instability worsened by water infiltration.

The situation remains under close monitoring, with police and army units assisting traffic control and safety checks.
