Colombia Accelerates Infrastructure, Cultural and Tourism Projects in 2026
The national Institute of Roads (INVIAS) will take direct control of the DEVIMED corridor in Antioquia on 1 August 2026, assuming operation, administration and maintenance of the 172.5‑km route that serves about 450 000 residents. Governor Andrés Julián Rendón has urged the transfer of all INVIAS‑managed roads in the department to the regional authorities to preserve service quality.
Cali is set to host the Smart City Expo 2026 from 30 September to 1 October, expecting over 3 000 specialized visitors and 53 exhibitors under the theme “Bio‑Intelligent Cities”. Bogotá’s BOG27 International Art Biennale will run in September 2027, offering 51 incentives worth 1 000 million pesos and inviting São Paulo as guest country.
A recent study by Albert Guivernau of OBS Business School found that large music festivals injected more than 154 000 million Colombian pesos into Bogotá’s economy in 2025 and attracted over 50 000 tourists. In the Valle del Cauca, agro‑industrial startups grew from 104 in 2023 to 266 in 2026, a 156 % increase, while precision agriculture projects are boosting carbon sequestration. Other initiatives include Cartagena’s “Las Chambaculeras” eco‑tourism boats, a Gala Bogotá de Todes honoring inclusive tourism, and intermediate cities lobbying for greater resources from the new national government.
