Colombia's National Police expands Purple Patrol to combat gender-based violence
The National Police of Colombia is strengthening its ‘Purple Patrol’ (Patrulla Púrpura) initiative, a strategy designed to prevent, address, and protect victims of domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence.
As part of the Strategy for the Attention to Women, Family, and Gender (EMFAG), police commands have conducted prevention and guidance sessions in urban neighborhoods and commercial sectors throughout 2026. These interventions aim to connect citizens with support routes and specialized responses for situations affecting women and families.
In addition to patrolling, the unit performs pedagogical activities, identifies risk situations, and provides guidance to victims. Recent efforts include community sessions in Montería and San Carlos, Córdoba, where authorities explained how to identify and report crimes such as sexual offenses, femicide, and attacks involving chemical agents.
