Colombia's Nueva EPS shortfalls spark financial crisis for Guaviare health providers

The manager of IPS Nueva Salud Integral, Nera Liliana Ayerbe, warned that the health network in Guaviare is confronting a severe financial crisis because the regional insurer Nueva EPS has been paying only about 80 % of the amounts billed. The provider says it has pending receivables of more than 700 million pesos, with other disputed invoices that could exceed 1.6 billion pesos, forcing cuts to home‑care services and hampering the hiring of medical staff.

Industry analysis notes that the technical reserves of EPS entities expose a broader risk to Colombia’s health‑insurance system, indicating that insufficient payments and mounting debts could threaten the stability of health service provision nationwide.
