Colombia's pension transfer window ends July 2026

An exceptional mechanism that let Colombian workers near retirement switch between the public pension system (Colpensiones) and private pension funds closed on 16 July 2026. Established by article 76 of Law 2381 of 2024, the two‑year window lifted the restriction imposed by Law 100 of 1993 for affiliates with less than ten years to the pension age.

Eligible participants were women with at least 750 weeks of contributions (generally 47 years or older) and men with at least 900 weeks (generally 52 years or older). To benefit, they had to receive a mandatory double advisory from both Colpensiones and the chosen private administrator, then formally submit a transfer request before the deadline. Those who only obtained the advisory but did not file the request missed the benefit.
