Colombia's Public Debt Hits 60.5% of GDP in June 2026

Colombia's total public debt reached 1.167 trillion Colombian pesos at the end of June 2026, representing 60.5% of the country's GDP, according to the Ministry of Finance. The majority of the debt is domestic, accounting for 77.1% (about 899.7 trillion pesos or 46.6% of GDP), while external obligations make up the remaining 22.9% (267.4 trillion pesos, 13.9% of GDP). June marked the second consecutive month of a modest decline in the debt‑to‑GDP ratio, down from 60.6% in May and 61.2% in April. Analysts noted that the rise in overall debt continues, growing by roughly 362.3 trillion pesos since August 2022, and warned that higher debt limits fiscal space for future spending. Service costs are expected to stay above 95 trillion pesos annually through 2031, with internal debt service alone projected at 149.2 trillion pesos in 2026.
