San Luis Potosí monitors dams to secure water supply through 2027

The Comisión Estatal del Agua (CEA) of the State of San Luis Potosí is maintaining permanent monitoring of the region’s main reservoirs during the rainy season. According to CEA director general Pascual Martínez Sánchez, the San José dam holds 84.6 % of its capacity, El Peaje 81.5 %, El Potosino 68.5 % and El Realito 54.8 %, levels that allow the metropolitan area to be supplied with potable water until 2027.

The agency says that if any reservoir reaches 90 % of storage, a technical committee will decide on controlled releases to protect homes, infrastructure and material assets. Residents are also urged to avoid the Río Santiago boulevard during heavy rains because storm‑water drains flow directly onto the roadway, increasing risk for motorists and pedestrians.
