Colombia's ruling coalition secures majorities in Congress

Political parties in Colombia have finalized their official stances regarding the administration of Abelardo de la Espriella, as required by the Opposition Statute. The ruling coalition has secured absolute majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, composed primarily of the country’s largest and most traditional parties.

The opposition has seen a significant reduction in legislative strength. The Pacto Histórico remains the largest group within the opposition in both chambers, though it is joined by only a few minority parties. Notably, the Alianza Verde opted to declare itself an independent organization rather than joining the opposition.

Analysts note that the political landscape is defined by a sharp confrontation between the current government and the Pacto Histórico. Despite losing the presidency, the Pacto Histórico maintains significant mobilization capacity and leadership through figures such as Gustavo Petro and Iván Cepeda, even establishing an opposition cabinet to monitor the current administration.
