Colombia's UNP withdraws security details for three Petro-linked individuals

Colombia’s National Protection Unit (UNP) has withdrawn security details for Gabriela Muñoz, Juliana Guerrero, and Beto Coral. The three individuals, who are closely associated with the Petro administration, had been receiving protection during Gustavo Petro’s government.

Following a new evaluation of their security conditions, the UNP concluded there were insufficient elements to justify the continued use of these protection devices. The combined cost of these security schemes for the state was approximately $40 million pesos per month.

The decision follows controversy regarding how these protections were granted. In the case of Gabriela Muñoz, questions were raised regarding her political ties and alleged undue influence within the Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) authority. While Muñoz filed a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office citing threats, investigators noted that the office had requested a risk assessment rather than the direct assignment of a security detail.
