Colombo Dockyard posts quarterly profit as ship‑repair business drives rebound
Colombo Dockyard PLC announced a net profit of Rs 80.2 million for the three months ended 30 June 2026, reversing a loss of Rs 813.4 million recorded in the same period a year earlier. The turnaround is attributed to a surge in ship‑repair activity, with repair‑segment revenue rising 48.4 % to Rs 3.95 billion and gross profit more than tripling. Shipbuilding and heavy‑engineering divisions remained loss‑making, though their losses narrowed as cost controls took effect.
The profit swing also reflects a sharp decline in financing costs, which fell 63.8 % to Rs 188.2 million, and a 21.8 % drop in cost of sales. Despite the earnings improvement, operating cash flow stayed negative, with a cash outflow of Rs 678.1 million driven by higher receivables. The company celebrated its 52nd anniversary, positioning the result as a sign of renewed commercial ambition for Sri Lanka’s maritime sector.
