Colombo Stock Exchange indices slip amid banking sector activity

The Colombo Stock Exchange has experienced recent declines in its benchmark indices. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) and the S&P SL20 both fell by approximately 0.50% during a session where banking stocks accounted for over 40% of the total turnover.

Trading activity in Colombo has shown signs of volatility and thinning liquidity. In one session, daily turnover dropped below LKR 1.0 billion for the first time since late August, representing a 63.8% decline from the monthly average. While specific sectors like Capital Goods and Diversified Financials have driven significant portions of trading, overall turnover remains well below recent norms.

Foreign investment trends in Sri Lanka remain negative on both a month-to-date and year-to-date basis, despite occasional single-day net inflows.
