Colonel accused of financing Zampieri murder to be transferred to Cuiabá

A judge has authorized the transfer of Colonel Etevaldo Luiz Caçadini de Vargas from Brasília to Cuiabá to prepare for his upcoming jury trial. Caçadini is one of the defendants accused of financing the murder of lawyer Roberto Zampieri.

Judge José Mauro Nagib Jorge granted the defense's request to ensure the defendant can meet in person with his lawyers before the trial, which is scheduled for September 29. The judge noted that in a case with such complex evidence, in-person meetings are an “indispensable provision” and cannot be blocked by logistical hurdles.

Upon arrival in Mato Grosso, the retired colonel will be held at the 44th Motorized Infantry Battalion, known as Batalhão Laguna. This follows previous denials of the defense's requests to transfer him to a military unit in Belo Horizonte for health and family reasons.
