Colonel Etevaldo Caçadini Tied to Murder of Lawyer Roberto Zampieri

Police investigating the killing of lawyer Roberto Zampieri in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, say telephone records show calls between the accused shooter, Colonel Etevaldo Luiz Caçadini Devargas, and farmer Aníbal Manoel Laurindo, whom authorities consider a possible mandante. The investigation uncovered a land dispute worth about R$ 100 million involving Zampieri and the farm owned by Laurindo.

According to Deputy Nilson Farias, the colonel’s phone contained photographs of the crime scene, excerpts of the civil case against Laurindo and information on an intermediary, Hedilerson Fialho Martins Barbosa. Prosecutors allege the colonel offered a R$ 40,000 reward for the killing, while the shooter, Antônio Gomes da Silva, fired the shots. The case is being tried for triple‑qualified homicide.

The investigation continues as authorities examine the contacts and financial motives surrounding the dispute.
