Colonel Georges Boissy remembered in Casamance

More than twenty years after his disappearance on February 11, 2005, the legacy of Colonel Georges Boissy remains a significant part of the collective memory in the Casamance region of Senegal.

A former high-ranking officer in the Senegalese army, Boissy held several prominent positions, including directing the National School for Active Officers (Enoa) in Thiès from 1987 to 1990 and commanding military zone number 5 in Ziguinchor. He is credited with playing a role in the return of displaced populations during periods of conflict in the region.

In his home village of Mandina Mancagne, Boissy is remembered as a figure of local pride and a moral heritage for the community. His contributions to the military and his connection to his land are recognized through the naming of the 5th infantry battalion military camp in Ziguinchor after him.
