Colonia launches record-breaking Fiesta Hípica del 25 de Agosto

Authorities in Colonia have officially launched the traditional Fiesta Hípica del 25 de Agosto, to be held at the Hipódromo Real de San Carlos. The event features a record-breaking program of 16 races involving 226 horses.

Local officials, including Intendente Guillermo A. Rodríguez, highlighted the economic and social importance of the turf industry, noting its role in providing direct and indirect employment for thousands of families across Uruguay and specifically within the department. The event follows significant infrastructure investments and coordination with the Maroñas team to prepare the facilities. Additionally, the area around Real de San Carlos is undergoing improvements, including the upcoming inauguration of a Basque Pelota court for the Jai Alai world championship.
