Colonia wins two top awards at Expo Prado 2026

The Intendencia de Colonia has received two first-place awards at the Expo Prado 2026 for its institutional stand. The exhibition, themed ‘Colonia, tierra de inmigrantes’ (Colonia, land of immigrants), was recognized in the ‘Intendencias’ category and the ‘Aprovechamiento del espacio interior’ (Use of interior space) category.

The stand was praised by the jury for its immersive storytelling, which used elements such as wood, nets, antique trunks, period clothing, maps, and portholes to recreate the environment of the ships that brought immigrant families to the department. The design also featured a wavy ceiling intended to evoke the sea.

Inaugurated by Intendant Guillermo Rodríguez, the proposal highlights the cultural heritage, gastronomy, and tourism of Colonia, celebrating the diverse migratory waves—including Portuguese, Spanish, Swiss, and Waldensian settlers—that shaped the region's identity.
