Colorado 8th District race tied between Evans and Rutinel
A recent poll shows the race for Colorado’s 8th Congressional District is essentially tied between Republican Gabe Evans and Democratic challenger Manny Rutinel. Conducted by McLaughlin and Associates for a conservative nonprofit, the survey found 48% of likely voters support Evans and 46% support Rutinel, with 6% undecided. The results fall within a 4.9 percentage point margin of error.
The poll highlights challenges for both candidates. Evans faces unfavorable views from 48% of respondents, while Rutinel has an unfavorable rating of 37% and remains unknown to nearly 18% of voters. Additionally, the survey indicates broader political sentiment, with 61% of respondents stating the U.S. is on the wrong track and 51% expressing disapproval of Donald Trump.
Separately, fact-checking efforts have targeted campaign advertisements. Claims that Rutinel voted for his own pay raise were found to be misleading, as he voted for an independent commission to determine future raises and will not benefit from the changes. Conversely, reports indicate that Evans’ past votes contributed to increased healthcare costs for Coloradans.
