Colorado Avalanche prepare for preseason games and roster cuts

The Colorado Avalanche are finalizing preparations for their preseason schedule, beginning with a home game against the Utah Mammoth at Ball Arena. Head coach Jared Bednar indicated that the team will primarily utilize NHL regulars for the home games, while rotating veterans to participate in road games in Winnipeg to comply with Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) regulations.

Under the current CBA, veterans with over 100 career NHL games are limited to a maximum of two exhibition appearances. To manage this, Bednar is implementing a rotation where specific players receive scheduled days off to ensure roster compliance. Notable players such as Ilya Nabokov, Nikita Prischepov, Taylor Makar, and Alex Gagne are expected to play in both upcoming games and were granted Saturday off.

Regarding player health, superstar defenseman Cale Makar has been participating in training camp drills while wearing a non-contact jersey as he rehabilitates a lower-body injury. He has increased his time on the ice during recent sessions and is expected to return to full activity soon. Roster cuts are expected to be made following the upcoming preseason matchups.
