Colorado Avalanche undergo roster changes for 2026-27 season

The Colorado Avalanche are entering the 2026–27 season with a restructured roster focused on salary cap management and youth. To maintain their core players, the team traded veteran forward Valeri Nichushkin to Columbus in exchange for draft picks.

New additions to the roster include Jaden Schwartz, signed to a three-year deal, and veteran defenseman Brent Burns on a one-year contract. The team also acquired Fedor Svechkov, Zachary L’Heureux, and Fabian Lysell through trades to add depth and speed.

Separately, former Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev remains without an NHL team as the 2026–27 season approaches. After playing in the KHL for Spartak Moskva, Georgiev terminated his contract in June to seek another opportunity in North America, but has yet to secure a new roster spot.
