Colorado candidates debate election administration and voting systems

Democrat Amanda Gonzalez and Republican James Wiley participated in a debate hosted by Colorado Politics regarding the state’s election systems. The candidates offered opposing views on how to manage future elections in Colorado.

Gonzalez, the Jefferson County clerk and recorder, defended the state’s current mail-in ballot system. She emphasized that the existing framework provides secure and accessible elections through the use of paper ballots, post-election audits, and bipartisan election workers.

Wiley, a political newcomer, argued that centralized election administration and the use of voting machines have negatively impacted public trust. He proposed a return to more local, human-controlled systems to restore voter confidence.
