Colorado cities lead 2026 small business rankings

A new study by Bluevine has identified the top 15 U.S. metropolitan areas for small businesses in 2026. The ranking utilized a weighted methodology combining proprietary data from over 200,000 active accounts with government data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The analysis evaluated four key categories: business survival statistics, business growth metrics, cost of business metrics, and Bluevine banking data, such as account density and balance growth. Colorado emerged as a significant leader, with Colorado Springs ranked first, Denver second, and Greeley twelfth.

The report noted a divergence between business growth and survival, observing that while five top-15 metros ranked in the top 10 for growth, none of those specific cities reached the top half for survival. Other notable performers included Kansas City, Minneapolis, Nashville, and Philadelphia, which all ranked in the top half across all four evaluated categories.
