Colorado detention center TB case spurs legal demand for investigation

Community groups and health professionals asked Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser to compel immigration authorities and private prison operator GEO Group to cooperate with a public‑health investigation after a confirmed case of tuberculosis was detected at the ICE‑run Aurora detention facility. The advocates, including Shut Down GEO Aurora, American Friends Service Committee and Casa de Paz, delivered a letter urging the prosecutor to require GEO and ICE to allow the Adams County Health Department to examine those potentially exposed. Officials have confirmed only one TB case so far, though media reports suggest up to a dozen detainees might be infected. The state health department has given GEO Group a deadline to provide medical records and facilitate investigators’ access.
