Colorado District 8 race hinges on Latino vote
The race for Colorado’s 8th Congressional District has become a focal point in the upcoming U.S. elections, with Latino voters expected to play a decisive role. Republican Gabe Evans is seeking to defend his seat against Democrat Manny Rutinel in a contest that is currently too close to call.
According to polling from McLaughlin & Associates, Evans holds 48% of the vote compared to 46% for Rutinel, a margin within the error of margin. The district, which includes urban and suburban areas north of Denver as well as agricultural and oil sectors in Weld and Larimer counties, is highly competitive; previous elections in this district were decided by less than one percentage point.
Latino voters represent approximately 28.5% of registered voters in the district, totaling about 131,460 electors. Both candidates highlight their heritage: Evans is the grandson of Mexican immigrants and a U.S. Army veteran, while Rutinel is the son of a Dominican immigrant.
