Colorado flash flood warnings issued for Aspen Acres Burn Scar
The National Weather Service has issued multiple flash flood warnings and watches across southeastern Colorado. Heavy thunderstorms are threatening areas including the Middle Aspen Acres Burn Scar, which spans Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, and Pueblo counties.
Forecasters warn that excessive rainfall over the burn scar could trigger life-threatening debris flows consisting of rock, mud, and vegetation. These flows are expected to move through several drainages, including North Saint Charles, South Creek, Squirrel Creek, Middle Creek, and North Creek. High-risk locations include Beulah, Highway 165, and Highway 78.
Additionally, a flash flood warning was issued for the Purgatoire River Basin in Northeastern Las Animas County following heavy rainfall. Residents in affected areas are advised to move to higher ground immediately.
