Colorado Gubernatorial Candidates Weiser and Marx Announce Running Mates

Democratic candidate Phil Weiser, Colorado’s attorney general, announced Jefferson County Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper as his lieutenant‑governor running mate. Dahlkemper, a commissioner since 2019, helped design the framework for distributing $900 million in opioid settlement funds, eliminated the county’s revenue cap imposed under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, and has partnered with the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute Indian tribes.

Republican candidate Victor Marx, a ministry leader and Marine veteran, selected retired Marine colonel George Markert as his lieutenant‑governor pick. Markert previously ran for the U.S. Senate, failed to qualify for the primary ballot, and moved to Colorado about three years ago. He describes himself as a constitutional conservative and a supporter of former President Trump’s “America First” agenda. Both tickets will face each other in the November 2026 Colorado gubernatorial election.
