Colorado higher peaks receive early snow as weather shifts

Late-summer warmth in Colorado is transitioning to cooler, wetter weather as the first dustings of snow arrive on the state’s higher peaks. Late-season monsoonal moisture from the south is driving frequent showers and thunderstorms across the Western Slope through Friday, Sept. 25.

Precipitation is expected to increase on Thursday, with a 50% to 90% chance of showers after noon. By Friday, activity will diminish, with a 40% chance of precipitation in higher-elevation areas such as Aspen and Breckenridge.

Temperatures are shifting toward below-normal levels due to increased cloud cover and low pressure. Meteorologists from the National Weather Service indicate that while recent trends were above normal, rain-affected locations could see temperatures drop up to 10 degrees below normal. Clearer, warmer weather is forecasted to return by the weekend.
