Colorado issues health order over tuberculosis at Aurora detention center

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has issued a public health order demanding information regarding tuberculosis at an immigrant detention center in Aurora. The facility is operated by the GEO Group for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The order requires the GEO Group to provide names, dates of birth, test results, scans, and treatment details for anyone who has tested positive for or been exposed to tuberculosis. This state-level action follows a similar order from the Adams County Health Department two months ago that the private prison company reportedly failed to comply with.

While ICE and the GEO Group stated that one confirmed case was isolated, treated, and removed from the country, state and local officials have been unable to independently verify these claims. Officials expressed concern that the disease could spread among the more than 400 employees and released detainees, potentially impacting the broader community. The deadline for compliance with the new state order is set for Monday.
