Colorado legal challenges involve school policies and abortion speech regulations

Colorado is facing legal scrutiny regarding several state policies and regulations. In Jefferson County, officials at Dakota Ridge High School are under fire following decisions related to transgender policies. Reports indicate that the school implemented an open-door policy for girls’ locker rooms, which coincided with the removal of 35 female athletes from school programs. Additionally, a coach allegedly threatened to bench students for discussing these policy changes in a school parking lot, characterizing the conversation as bullying.

Separately, a federal appeals court is reviewing a challenge to a Colorado statute and Denver ordinance. The law prohibits individuals from approaching within eight feet of another person to distribute literature or engage in counseling within 100 feet of an abortion center entrance. Wendy Faustin, who provides information regarding pregnancy resource centers and adoption agencies, is challenging the regulation, which classifies violations as petty offenses punishable by fines or potential jail time.
