Colorado Parks and Wildlife highlights adaptive recreation and officer heroism

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is highlighting both its adaptive recreational efforts and the life-saving actions of its officers.

At Ridgway State Park, CPW facilitated a Make-A-Wish trip for the Blevins family. The visit included adaptive activities such as an interpretive hike using a track chair and a paddleboard adventure designed to accommodate a wheelchair. These initiatives aim to provide outdoor opportunities for individuals of all ability levels.

Separately, six CPW officers were recognized for their emergency response following a boating accident at Chatfield State Park in July. During the incident, a man suffered a severe leg injury caused by a boat propeller. Officers applied tourniquets to control bleeding and escorted the vessel to a marina, actions that officials stated were instrumental in the victim's survival. The officers received recognition from South Metro Fire Rescue and AdventHealth.
