Colorado Parks and Wildlife investigates bear attack in Clear Creek County
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is investigating a reported bear attack that occurred early Thursday morning on Castlewood Drive in Clear Creek County.
A homeowner reported hearing noises on his deck around 1:00 a.m. and discovered a bear near his trash cans. After the man attempted to scare the animal away by yelling, the bear reportedly ran toward him. The homeowner stated he pushed the bear away, but the animal charged him a second time, prompting him to kick the bear in self-defense. The bear then fled the property. The man required medical treatment following the encounter.
CPW officers searched the area but were unable to locate the bear. Officials are continuing to monitor the area for bear activity and are urging residents to remove trash and other attractants to prevent future conflicts. This incident marks the twelfth bear attack reported to CPW in 2026.
