Colorado Parks and Wildlife kills two wolves following livestock attacks

Colorado Parks and Wildlife killed two yearling wolves on September 8 following confirmed attacks on livestock. One male yearling from the Copper Creek Pack was killed in Pitkin County after being linked to four cattle attacks between July 29 and September 4. A second male yearling from the Three Creeks Pack was killed in Rio Blanco County after four attacks on sheep, which resulted in the loss of 13 lambs and two ewes.

These removals represent the fourth lethal action taken this summer due to predator-livestock conflict and the fifth since the state began its gray wolf reintroduction program in December 2023. Agency officials noted that increased wolf movement during the summer, combined with livestock distribution in remote open allotments, has led to more frequent encounters as the local wolf population grows.
