Colorado records hottest summer since 1895

Colorado experienced its hottest summer recorded since 1895, characterized by extreme heat and severe drought conditions. The average temperature for June, July, and August reached 69.4 degrees, significantly higher than the typical average of 64.5 degrees. August was identified as the hottest month in the state's history, with an average temperature of 70.6 degrees.

The heatwave led to significant environmental impacts, including the drying up of various ponds and lakes, which resulted in water level closures and local wildlife entering residential areas in search of food and water.

Nationally, the United States also saw record-breaking temperatures, with the summer average rising by 3 degrees to 74.4 degrees, marking the hottest summer in the country since records began in 1895. Colorado recorded the third-highest temperature jump in the nation, trailing only New Mexico and Utah.
