Colorado releases 2026 big game hunting schedules and regulations
Colorado Parks and Wildlife has released the 2026 Big Game Hunting Brochure, detailing regulations and season dates for various species. For deer and elk, archery seasons are scheduled for September 2–30, 2026, followed by muzzleloader and four distinct rifle seasons spanning from mid-October through late November.
Other species, including pronghorn, moose, and black bear, have specific requirements and dates that vary by license and hunt area. Bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and mountain lions are managed under separate regulatory brochures and license periods.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is also advising hunters to prepare for the upcoming fall season on public lands. Officials emphasize the importance of following Colorado Parks and Wildlife regulations, ensuring proper licensing, and understanding land access to avoid trespassing on private property. Additionally, hunters are cautioned regarding Stage 1 fire restrictions currently in effect on many BLM-administered lands, which limit campfire use to agency-provided grates at developed sites.
