Colorado Springs downgrades burn ban to burn restriction
The Colorado Springs Fire Department has downgraded its current burn ban to a burn restriction, effective Friday at noon. The ban had been in place since June 29 following the outbreak of the ‘Aspen Acres’ fire.
Under the new restrictions, residents are prohibited from starting recreational fires outside of portable or fixed fireplaces, operating small engine equipment without functioning spark arrestors, and smoking in city-owned parks or open spaces. However, residents are now permitted to use fireworks, model rockets, and perform hot work, provided they obtain the proper permits. Violations of these restrictions may result in fines, imprisonment, or both.
