San Diego State defeats Fresno State to reclaim Old Oil Can

San Diego State reclaimed the Old Oil Can with a 26-23 victory over Fresno State at Snapdragon Stadium. The win improves the Aztecs to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in Pac-12 play, while the Bulldogs drop to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The game was decided in the final minute when Cooper DeLiva converted a career-long 53-yard field goal. The Aztecs faced significant adversity after starting quarterback Jayden Denegalin left the game in the second quarter due to an ankle injury. Freshman backup Stone Saunders took over, managing the offense through the closing stages of the match.

Fresno State mounted a comeback in the second half, led by Julius Gillick, who scored a rushing touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 17-16 lead in the third quarter. However, San Diego State responded with a touchdown to reclaim the lead, and a missed extra point by Fresno State left the score tied at 23 before the decisive field goal.
