Colorado voters face 14 statewide ballot measures and key downballot races
Colorado voters are preparing to cast ballots that include 14 statewide questions and several key downballot races. The ballot measures include various amendments that could alter the state constitution or state law.
Proposed amendments include Amendment 81, which would require police to alert federal officials regarding certain criminal charges; Amendment 82, concerning the right to buy and sell natural gas; Amendment 83, regarding hunting and fishing rights; Amendment 84, which proposes adding identification numbers to mail ballot envelopes; Amendment 85, requiring ballot questions to be written at an eighth-grade reading level; and Amendment 86, concerning congressional redistricting.
In downballot races, Democratic candidates are generally favored. In the race for Secretary of State, Democrat Amanda Gonzalez is running against James Wiley. In the gubernatorial race, Attorney General Phil Weiser is expected to face Republican nominee Victor Marx.
