Colorado's $900 Million I‑70 Floyd Hill Project Nears Midpoint

The Colorado Department of Transportation reports that the $900 million, eight‑mile I‑70 Floyd Hill Project has reached the halfway point of its multiyear rebuild. Over the past three years crews have removed more than 765,500 tons of rock, ending the most disruptive phase of rock blasting and reducing short‑term traffic holds. Drivers can now expect fewer daytime delays, though overnight single‑direction closures will continue through mid‑August to aid bridge construction. The project will add a third, tolled Express Lane, full shoulders and gentler curves, replacing the existing narrow canyon section.

Separately, the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority and Eagle County are advancing a major roadwork effort at the Highway 82, El Jebel Road and Valley Road intersection north of Crown Mountain Park. The work includes road reconfigurations, burial of utility lines and a new park‑and‑ride lot, with completion slated for mid‑ to late October.
