Colorado's Aspen Acres Fire Triggers Flood and Fire Weather Alerts

The Aspen Acres wildfire southwest of Pueblo, Colorado, has burned 101,546 acres and is 61% contained, making it the state’s largest current fire and the seventh largest in its history. Fire crews have also responded to a new nearby blaze, the Salt fire, which ignited on a quarter‑acre of land and is being encircled with defensive lines. Ongoing suppression efforts include bulldozer lines, hand crews, and aerial support, while smoke reports continue around the fire’s southern perimeter.

A flash‑flood warning has been issued for the North and Middle Aspen Acres burn scar as thunderstorms bring heavy rain. The National Weather Service warns of rapid runoff, debris flows of rock, mud and vegetation, and life‑threatening flooding in areas such as Beulah and surrounding creek channels. Residents are advised to avoid flood waters and be prepared for possible road washouts.

The combination of lingering fire activity, erratic winds from upcoming thunderstorms, and the risk of flash flooding underscores the ongoing hazards for communities surrounding the burn scar.
