Colorectal cancer awareness initiatives launched in Japan

Efforts to increase colorectal cancer awareness and screening rates are being highlighted through public lectures and media programming in Japan.

On October 18, 2026, the Osaka Medical Center and the NPO Cancer Net Japan will co-host a free public lecture titled ‘If You Are Diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer - Latest Diagnosis and Treatment’. The event aims to educate patients, families, and the general public on the importance of early detection and the advancements in medical technology, such as endoscopic treatments and robotic-assisted surgery.

Additionally, the NHK program ‘Torisetsu Show’, hosted by Satomi Ishihara, will feature a special segment on colorectal cancer. The program addresses the high mortality rates associated with the disease and the challenge of low screening rates in Japan. It will showcase a ‘Colorectal Cancer Eradication Project’ on Yonaguni Island, utilizing behavioral science to encourage residents to undergo screenings, and will distribute screening information to millions of people across the country.
