Colorectal cancer causes over 23,000 annual deaths in Brazil

Colorectal cancer, which affects the colon and rectum, is a significant health concern in Brazil, causing more than 23,000 deaths annually according to the National Cancer Institute (INCA). The disease is the second most frequent type of cancer in both men and women in the country.

Medical experts emphasize that the disease often evolves silently, with high mortality rates linked to late diagnoses. The 'Setembro Verde' campaign, established by the Brazilian Society of Coloproctology (SBCP), aims to increase awareness regarding prevention and early screening.

Key warning signs that require medical investigation include blood in the stool, persistent changes in bowel habits, recurring diarrhea or constipation, changes in stool shape, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, and unexplained anemia.
