Colosio proposes banning political propaganda in Querétaro social programs

Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas of Movimiento Ciudadano has introduced an initiative to reform the Social Development Law of Querétaro. The proposal aims to prevent social programs from being used for political or electoral purposes.

The initiative seeks to prohibit the use of logos, colors, phrases, or any other elements that identify political parties or public officials during the distribution of social benefits. Colosio Riojas argued that such practices constitute a form of electoral clientelism and political pressure, stating that social programs should serve to reduce inequality rather than act as tools for obtaining votes.

If passed, the reform would establish specific rules for the delivery of support during both electoral and non-electoral periods. It also proposes administrative and criminal sanctions for those who condition the delivery of benefits on political support. The proposal is currently awaiting analysis by the state legislature.
