Colosseo-Fori Imperiali station nominated for Prix Versailles 2026

The Colosseo-Fori Imperiali station on Rome's Metro C line has been nominated for the Prix Versailles 2026, a prestigious international architecture and design award held in collaboration with UNESCO.

The station is competing in the ‘Passenger Stations’ category, which features railway and metro stations inaugurated between early 2025 and mid-2026. The nomination was initiated by the Prix Versailles selection committee, which invited Rome to formalize its participation.

Inaugurated on December 16, 2025, the station is described as a ‘station-museum’ featuring four underground levels extending over thirty meters deep. The project aims to integrate modern public transport with the city's ancient historical heritage.

The selection process involves a committee choosing a maximum of eight stations for a global list, followed by an international jury that awards the main Prix Versailles title and special mentions for interior and exterior design. The shortlist is expected on September 28, with winners to be announced on December 10 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
